Superintendent Jennings Excited to Return Home

A graduate of Pulaski High School’s class of 1990 is returning home to lead his alma mater as its next superintendent.

Thomas Jennings is set to lead Pulaski Academy & Central School District after more than 20 years in education, including as superintendent of Schenevus Central School District since 2012.

“I am excited and humbled to return home,” said Jennings. “Pulaski is… great kids, committed faculty, staff and administration, a forward-thinking board of education and a proud community. I am delighted to become part of that and to be able to contribute to the community that raised me.”

After graduating from Pulaski, Jennings attended the University of Rochester from 1990 to 1996, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s in teaching. He then taught social studies at Oneonta High School for 12 years.

Jennings then obtained his CAS (certificate of advanced study) in educational leadership in 2008, and started his tenure at Schenevus Central School District, first as its K-12 principal before transitioning to superintendent.

“Tom has local roots, growing up in the district and graduating from Pulaski Academy. We are excited to welcome Tom and his family back to the area and having them join our community,” said Pulaski Board of Education President Joel Southwell.

Jennings said he comes from a family of educators, and realized it was the right fit for him after graduating from college and first setting foot into the classroom as a teacher.

“I loved the daily adventures in the classroom, the constant learning that is required of both student and instructor, and the satisfaction of watching the kids grow,” he said.

Jennings said some of his initial goals for Pulaski Academy include developing a school improvement process that is purposeful and collaborative, developing a communication plan that engages the entire school community, conducting an academic program review and finance review and reviewing all school safety measures.

“I also hope to develop the kinds of collaborative relationships that are so essential in school leadership,” said Jennings. “Relationships with staff, students, parents and community members.”
