Pulaski Academy & Central School District

To coincide with a recent ELA unit, fourth grade students at Pulaski’s Lura Sharp Elementary School recently took a field trip to Stone Mills Agricultural Museum in La Fargeville, New York.

After recently reading the novel “Farmer Boy” by Laura Ingalls Wilder, students were able to experience firsthand what life was like in New York State in the nineteenth century. Upon arriving at the museum, the students were immediately transported back in time to an 1800s farm. 

Students wore period-accurate clothing, such as bonnets and handkerchiefs. They participated in several hands-on stations to learn more about one room school houses, bread & butter making, sheep shearing, wool & weaving, planting, quilting and even learning the work it takes to pump water for animals and chores.
