Lura Sharp Students Showcase Reading Knowledge During Battle of the Books

Students at Lura Sharp Elementary School recently put their reading knowledge to the test during the school’s annual Battle of the Books district competition, an event that celebrated literacy, teamwork, and academic achievement.
The competition featured students in grades one through six, who faced off against their peers in a series of trivia-style rounds based on books they had read throughout the school year. The event was divided into three grade-level brackets: first and second grade, third and fourth grade, and fifth and sixth grade.
Students demonstrated impressive recall and comprehension as they answered detailed questions about characters, plots, and key moments from a wide range of books. The competition not only highlighted students’ dedication to reading but also their ability to retain and apply knowledge in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting.
Winners from each grade-level division advanced to the county-level competition, where they will represent Lura Sharp Elementary and compete against students from other schools across the region.
The Battle of the Books competition continues to be a meaningful way to encourage a love of reading among students, while fostering critical thinking, collaboration, and confidence in an engaging and supportive environment.
