Pulaski High School Students Explore Careers in Energy
Students from Pulaski High School recently toured the National Grid Electric Control Centers in Liverpool, New York, gaining an inside look at how electricity is monitored and controlled across a significant portion of New York State.
The visit offered students a firsthand view of the facility that operates around the clock to keep the power flowing reliably. During the tour, students explored a range of careers within National Grid and learned about the education, training, and technical skills required for roles in this career field.
The experience was made possible by Nick Riley, a Pulaski High School alumnus and Director of the Central Region Control Center, along with Greg Lavery, Manager at National Grid and a graduate of Mexico High School. Both professionals hosted the tour and shared their career journeys and insights into the industry.
“This was a fantastic opportunity for our students,” said Amy LaDue, the College and Career Advisor at Pulaski Middle-Senior High School. "It taught them so much about the exciting career paths available in the energy field. We cannot thank Nick and Greg enough for this wonderful experience.”
The trip was part of an ongoing effort to expose students to real-world applications of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and to inspire interest in high-demand technical careers.
